One of the most beautiful beaches of the northern Black Sea coast often suffers from pollution after winter and before the start of the summer season. On June 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the organizers of the Ritual Gatherings festival are gathering volunteers to clean it up. They are partnering with the Municipality of Avren, which will provide removal of the collected garbage, sacks and gloves. The purpose of the action is not only to clean the beach, but also to raise awareness on the topic of protecting the beach, the mouth of the river, its inhabitants and the unique white dune in the area. The clean-up will begin with a short conversation on the subject with experts from the Institute of Oceanology in the city of Varna, who will also show how observations and research of the waste on the beaches are carried out. The discussion will be open and accessible to people of all ages, as the aim is to answer practical questions about the recognition, conservation and causes of beach dune and estuary threats. Part of the mission of Ritual Gatherings is to protect the natural locations where it takes place and to unite people and organizations with a common cause.

Besides being a natural feature, this beach and river are also home to dozens of animal species. A large part of them are on the endangered list as a result of disturbed water regime, drying, human pollution and use of chemicals.

Everyone who wants to get involved is welcome on June 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. - the location is Kamchia beach, at the mouth of the Kamchia river: https://goo.gl/maps/i7Tgquhb1UeR73zL9

Sacks and gloves will be provided on site.

Recommendations for an environmentally friendly time at the beach:

1. Leave the beach cleaner than you found it. Pick up trash, even if it's not yours.
2. Carry reusable bottles and jugs that you can refill with water on site.
3. Organize your transport optimally by using intercity transport or share the journey with your personal car.
4. If you are planning a picnic after the cleaning - optimize the food in reusable containers;
